Seat Leon FR TDi (2005) Tow Bar Fitting

Page 1

Important Information: The following is an account of how I fitted my tow bar to my car. I don't guarantee that this is the correct way to fit the tow bar and as such if you follow all or part of this, you do so at you own risk. I will not be held responsible if anything nasty happens to you or others as a result of you following all or any part of the following account. If you are unsure about any point of the fitting, ask the advice of a professional, or part with some cash and get somebody else to fit it. Remember, your tow bar may be different to the one I fitted - Always fully read and understand the instructions that come with your tow bar.

Take one Seat Leon, a socket set, a few other tools and get going. I put the rear wheels on 2" planks to lift the back of the car up a little.

The tow bar is a Witter VW43C with their Quantum removable tow htich, part number ZQ3012.

The first job is to get the bumper off. This is held on with a load of Torx-head screws around the bottom and along the rear edge of the wheel arches. There are a couple of philips screws at the top-front corners. The top edge is held on by six big screws through the rear panel of the car. To get to these you will need to remove the rear trim panels from the boot. Take car getting the trim off as the clips are quite tight.

Once you have all the screws removed, you can pull the bumper back and off. Get somebody to give you a hand with this so you don't damage the paintwork. When the bumper is a few inches away from the car, reach in and pop the number plate lights out, and disconnect the cables from them. Put the bumper down on some dust sheets so you don't damage it.

With the bumper off, the rear cross beam can be removed, this is held on with a four bolts. The upper bolts holes go into the boot, so replace these bolts to stop water getting in.
