Tiger Super Six
I first started thinking about building my own kitcar back at the
beginning of 1993, when I was 18. The first step for me was to see
what kits were around, and how much they cost. I knew I wanted a
two-seater sportscar, like a Caterham (but that was way out of my
price range) - so the hunt began!
Back then the internet didn't really exist, so my research consisted
of buying magazines, such as Which
Kit? and Kit
Car. At the end of
my 'magazine research' it was down to two, the Robin Hood and the
Tiger Super Six.
In the May, I went up to the Stoneleigh kit car
show to have a look at the cars in the flesh. Robin Hood were the
first people to visit, and I have to say they they lost any any chance
of having my money due to their rude attitude when I tried to speak
to somebody on their stand. After a very brief visit to the Robin
Hood stand, I moved round to Tiger - what a contrast! I chatted to
Jim Dudley, the MD of Tiger Cars for a good half an hour about the
Super Six and various aspects and options of the kit. He then took
me outside to the owners club area to speak to some of the Tiger
owners and have a look at some more examples of the finished cars.
The trip to Stoneleigh finalised my decision to get a Tiger Super
Six.
I spent the next year saving as best I could, and then in the July
of 1994 I visited Tiger's Plumstead branch to order a Tiger Super
Six kit... ETA was about Christmas time. In total I ordered:
- Live-axle Tiger Super Six kit with British Racing Green bodywork.
- Donor pack including modified axle and a 2 litre Ford Pinto engine.
- Five 14x7 alloy wheels
- Pair of second hand Weber side-draft carburetors.
The time between July and December went very slowly, but then one
day I got a phone call from Sue saying that my kit was ready! I managed
to get a friend with a van, and then on the Saturday between Christmas
and New Year we went up to Plumstead to pick the kit up.
